Microsoft launches the ultimate laptop 'Surface Book' and updated Surface Pro 4

Microsoft, at a press event held in New York yesterday unveiled some interesting devices including a whole new Laptop, Surface Book which directly competes with its only one competitor, the MacBook. Why I said the only one because other than Microsoft, Apple is the only company that makes its own hardware and software. Surface Pro 4 was also launched along with an updated Microsoft Band.
Let's talk about the all new Surface Book first

Microsoft calls it the ultimate laptop and we all know the reason why.
The main highlights of this laptop are:
  • Display: 13.5” PixelSense™ display, Resolution: 3000 x 2000 (267 PPI)
  • Battery life: Up to 12 hours of video playback
  • Processor: 6th Gen Intel® Core™ i5 or i7
Graphics: i5: Intel® HD graphics 520, i5/i7: NVIDIA GeForce Graphics Processor
  • Memory: 8GB or 16GB RAM
  • Camera: 5.0MP front-facing camera, 8.0MP rear-facing camera with autofocus, with 1080p HD video recording, Dual microphones, front and rear-facing, Front-facing stereo speakers with Dolby® audio
  • Ports: Two full-size USB 3.0, Full-size SD™ card reader, SurfaceConnectTM, Headset jack, Mini DisplayPort
  • It comes along with free Surface Pen
This laptops seems to be very convincing and is set to give some serious competition to the good old favorite MacBook. However, it will not be cheap and is planned to start at a whopping 1499 USD, that roughly converts into 98,000 INR, but it will not launch in India till next year and the price will be more than 1 lac.
Well, I believe that competition has always benefited us consumers and this should benefit more than ever.

Second in the list is the cousin, Surface Pro 4. It is the upgraded version of the ever improving Surface. Main specifications can be highlighted as below:

  • Display: 12.3” PixelTouch display, Resolution: 2736 x 1824 (267 PPI)
  • Battery life: Up to 9 hours of video playback
  • Processor: 6th Gen Intel® Core™ M3, i5, or i7
  • Graphics: M3: Intel® HD graphics 515, i5: Intel® HD graphics 520, i7: Intel® Iris™ graphics
  • Memory: 4GB, 8GB, or 16GB RAM
  • Cameras/video/ audio: 5.0 MP front-facing HD camera, 8.0 MP rear-facing autofocus camera, with 1080p HD video recording, Stereo microphones with Stereo speakers with Dolby® audio
  • Ports: Full-size USB 3.0, microSD™ card reader, Headset jack, Mini DisplayPort, Cover port & SurfaceConnect™
This will start at 899 USD, converting into 60k INR, which is a price you can actually get a good laptop. However, considering the quality and the functionality it offers, the price is justified.
I will talk about Microsoft Band and the new Lumia's in later posts, along with more detailed review of the Surface Book.

Top three reasons to not buy iPhone 6S and wait for iPhone 7

Apple is the most valuable brand in the world as per this report, and this is no surprise. The way this company has made its products so desireable to all of us is no child's play. We all love their hardware, be it an iPhone, a MacBook, an iPad and Apple Watch or an iPad.

They design each of their product in such a unique manner that many if us would choose their hardware over most advanced software available in the market. It has become a status symbol to own an Apple product. I personally love MacBooks and though I find Windows being more productive, I would still consider buying me a MacBooK just because of its attractive hardware and software.

However, talking about iPhone in particular, there are few design and hardware issues that really bothers me since the launch of iPhone 6 which can still be found on the newly launched iPhone 6s as well. I personally dislike them and am waiting eagerly for them to vanish off so that I can make my next and long due upgrade to the newest and greatest from Apple.
I can list up some of them below:

Reason 1.
Those antenna lines, whether you like them or not, they are just not needed. Apple could have just covered them with something of the same colour material. I don't know how other manufacturers are managing it.

According to this patent application, Apple has developed a way to merge the colour of the antenna lines with the phone body, or simply making them invisible. Imagine how sexy will an iPhone in pure space grey colour will look.

Reason 2
That protruding camera, is one of the very next thing that I just cannot stand. After so long, why your camera had to be so protruding? After making such an awesome physical uni-shaped body for four consecutive years since the good old iPhone 4 till iPhone 5S (total 4 phones), why at now the camera had to protrude for two consecutive models (years). Its not cool Apple. It really leaves the lens to scratch, no matter how good care you take if you don't want to put in a cover, or you have to put as it's the only way to escape this.

Reason 3
These little technical improvements like fast charge and an OIS (optical image stabilization) camera, which most of the smartphones even from the mid budget segment are boasting, are still lacking in the flagship device from Apple. These two things are not too much to ask for and are now considered as a must in a flagship phone for which you are paying a fortune.

I wish Apple fixes all these things in the newest generation Apple iPhone which will be technically the 10th iPhone the giant will make and to be named the iPhone 7.

iPhone 6S coming to India on 16th October

Apple revealed its next gen 'S' upgrade to the already much popular and loved iPhone 6 last month. Though nothing has changed in from the outside (and I really didn't like it), the inside has been drastically changed.
In terms of Apple, 'The only thing that’s changed is everything'.

You can grasp all the major changes summed up below:
  • 3D Touch
  • 7000 series aluminium
  • Strongest cover glass
  • 64 bit A9 chip with M9
  • 2nd generation Touch ID
  • 12MP iSight camera
  • 4K video
  • 5MP FaceTime camera with Retina Flash
  • Live Photos
3D touch - iPhone 6s introduces an entirely new way to interact with your phone. For the first time, iPhone senses how much pressure you apply to the display. In addition to familiar Multi-Touch gestures like Tap, Swipe and Pinch, 3D Touch introduces Peek and Pop. This brings a new dimension of functionality to the iPhone experience. And when you use 3D Touch, your iPhone responds with subtle taps. So not only will you see what a press can do — you’ll feel it.

Strongest cover glass - The new glass on iPhone 6s is made using a special dual ion‑exchange process, which makes it stronger at a molecular level and the most durable in the smartphone industry.

12 MP iSight camera - For the first time after iphone 4S, Apple has finally made a jump in camera from 8MP to 12 MP this time. Though smartphones in the market presently boast 21MP for that matter, but its Apple which has confidence of saying its camera the best in the world of smartphones.

A9 with M9 - upto 70% faster CPU and 90% faster GPU performance.

5MP FaceTime camera with Retina flash - 5MP FaceTime HD camera includes Retina Flash to achieve perfectly lit selfies. When you use Retina Flash, a custom display chip drives the display to flash three times brighter than usual. Combined with True Tone technology, Retina Flash provides the perfect lighting for whatever environment you’re shooting in.

Live photos - Well this is something very basic but still a first. Its nothing but just a small video of 3 taken around your click, making you memory more deep, well sort of.

The prices are not officially out yet but we can expect the starting model of 16GB to be placed somewhere between 53500 to 56000 for iPhone 6 and for iPhone 6S will be around 72000. they are still indicative prices and I will update the prices once they are revealed.
Meanwhile, if you have no patience but money, you can head over to eBay and buy imported units of iPhone 6S starting above 60000 as of now for 16GB model in gold and silver colour.

Gmail's lifesaving feature is finally here, and its 'Undo send'

Nothing is more frightening than sending a mail to wrong recipient by mistake. Be it a normal reply or containing an attachment, its aftermath can sometime be a deal breaker for many. Google has always understood the pain we all face while compiling and sending emails. It always has attachment reminder in case you have mentioned in your mail that it contains an attachment and have forgotten to attach it, but this time it has gone a step further. You can now undo send a mail you have sent by mistake, however you have to be quick. It only give you an option to undo send for up to 30 seconds.

Undo sending your mail

If you make a typo or regret sending a message, you can undo the action by enabling "Undo send." This setting gives you the option to take back a message you just sent.
To enable Undo Send:
  1. Click the gear in the top right .
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Scroll down to "Undo Send" and click Enable.
  4. Set the cancellation period (the amount of time you have to decide if you want to unsend an email).
  5. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.If you had Undo Send turned on in Gmail Labs, your Undo Send setting will be on by default.
Note: To give you time to undo, Gmail delays sending the message for a few seconds. So if you don't select "Undo" within the time limit, your message will be sent. "Undo send" may not work if you experience connection issues.

iOS 9 will finally have a powersaving mode, will save battery by optimizing performance

I cannot imagine living without my phone beside me, well at least I need to know that I can use it anytime I want even if I am not using it currently. Technology has made us a slave in a way, making us depend over it for everything we want, eat, love and even pray.
Well, it does depend on something at least, battery.
It concerns us all to have a phone with good battery backup that should last till the time we doze off in the bed, but we all encounter times when we just cannot make it.
After Windows Phone and Android, finally Apple has also considered this and they are going to introduce a new power saving mode in the new iteration of their popular mobile/tablet operating system, the iOS 9.

Apple has included a new feature battery-saving Low Power mode for the very first time. This works by shutting down all the background activity and reduce performance to get you as much as three extra hours before the your phone bids you final adios for the day.

Striving for more battery is a battle we all fight everyday, and I hope this new feature from Apple will be of a great relief for sure.
